Title: Family Communication Coach

Summary

(Temporary - Part Time) The primary purpose of this part-time temporary role is to provide families with critical tools to help them work through conflict and communicate with one another more effectively. This will be completed by implementing a research-based program to underrepresented families in the Fort Wayne area. The program involves engaging families in four weekly coaching sessions including an interactive component for parents and their children to focus on how they communicate with each other and how they can make their inevitable conflicts more positive and productive.

Although the program involves real-time interactions with coaches, the entire program can be completed virtually. This work is part of a research program studying constructive, positive conflict that allows children to experience problem-solving and good feelings about family life. The temporary role will begin in July and all required work must be completed by December 2021.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.

  • Under the supervision of the key researcher and Fort Wayne Urban League leadership, coaches will manage the

  • project.

  • Family coaches will receive training in program administration and implementation.

  • Will recruit potential study participants.

  • Educate participants as the program is designed.

  • Collect and analyze data required for the study.

  • Administer the online program components to eligible, enrolled families on a rolling basis.

  • Complete any and all necessary administrative work associated with the research project.

  • Maintain regular communications with Fort Wayne Urban League leadership and the key researcher.

Please note: This is not a counseling or therapeutic role.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in psychology, human services, social services, education or similar field is required. Currently working toward or having completed a master’s degree in psychology, human or social services, counseling or related field is preferred.

Other requirements

  • A coach is someone who is well intentioned, able to learn the protocols and then train others.

  • The coach understands that the project is part of a research study and must be implemented per the established guidelines and requirements.

  • Assimilated in the community in which the research is being conducted is a preferred requirement.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $18.00 per hour
