RACE CARD PROJECT

Originating in 2010, journalist Michele Norris embarked on a mission to encapsulate individuals' thoughts on the word "race" within six words. With 200 postcards and a call to action, Norris and her team sparked a movement far exceeding expectations.

A surge of expression emerged, providing a unique and much-needed voice for those yearning to be heard. With a small footprint, Norris unwittingly created a platform for personal narratives that resonated across the nation and around the globe.

Fast forward to today, and the Race Card Project boasts a collection of over 500,000 personal narratives from all 50 states and 96 countries. Participants not only put their thoughts into six-word statements but often share backstories and photos, delving deeper into the sentiments and hard truths rarely uttered aloud.

The Fort Wayne Urban League proudly joins the Race Card Project movement.

We encourage our community to contribute their six-word statements and be a part of this impactful dialogue on race. Let your voice be heard as we embrace the power of concise expression and continue the journey toward understanding and unity.

Join the Fort Wayne Urban League's Race Card Project – where six words can spark a conversation that transcends boundaries.

Thank you to everyone who participated in The Race Card Project! We hope we provided an outlet for you to express your thoughts and reflections around race and that we were able to spark conversation about race in Fort Wayne and our surrounding communities.

We will host an open house on Wednesday, March 13, at the Fort Wayne Urban League office from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to showcase the six-word statements submitted by members of our community. We welcome you to join us at your leisure to preview the gallery and enjoy light refreshments and conversation. This event is free and open to the public.
